To Protect and Preserve: An Early History of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Illinois, 1900-1930

City Club of Chicago

The non-profit and non-partisan City Club of Chicago was created in 1903 to investigate and suggest improvements to urban problems. It addressed topics ranging from fire prevention to immigration policy. It was divided into numerous civic committees and investigative and educational branches, including a committee on parks and public playgrounds. The City Club supported both the Plan of Chicago published in 1909 and the creation of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County in 1914.
