Burnham was a famed architect and city planner who designed several famous structures in Chicago, including the Montauk and the Rookery buildings. In 1893, he planned the layout for the World's Columbian Exposition with Frederick Law Olmsted and Dwight Perkins. Burnham is perhaps most famous for his urban planning schemes for San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Chicago. His Plan of Chicago incorporated several key features of Dwight Perkins and Jens Jensen's vision for a forest preserve district. Burnham died in 1912 before he could see the implementation of aspects of his design for Chicago. Image credit: Charles Moore, Daniel H.
