Seeds of preservation
Through the Municipal Science Club, a civic group dedicated to encouraging additional parks and recreation sites in Chicago, Perkins and Jensen sought the support of elected officials at the city, county and state levels and worked with like-minded individuals on the Outer Belt Parks Commission, which had been created by the Board of County Commissioners. The final report of the Municipal Science Club, The Metropolitan Park Report (1905), proposed a sweeping program for regional park development. State lawmakers quickly passed legislation designed to make the dreams of preservationists a reality.
