To meet their patients' needs, the organization reached out to hundreds of companies, charities, and trusts—in Chicago and beyond. Horizon staff and volunteers helped to compile thousands of proposals during the organization’s years of operation, educating communities and potential contributors about the importance of the work they performed. The money raised went towards salaries for medical personnel, equipment, facility space, community education and outreach, advancement of palliative medicine, and more. Annual benefits allowed Horizon to celebrate the volunteers, staff, caregivers, donors, and administration that made Horizon Hospice possible. It was also an opportunity to fundraise, and to communicate the organization’s mission and services to Horizon Hospice donors and the wider community. Benefits were held at a wide variety of restaurants, event spaces, and cultural centers around the city. The events typically included food, drinks, and entertainment. Often an auction would take place, with the proceeds going towards Horizon’s many health services. This section has materials from some of these galas as well as the correspondence and proposals to and from donors.
