A Circle of Care: Horizon Hospice, 1978-2015: by Special Collections and University Archives, UIC Library

Treating people with AIDS

The AIDS crisis began in Horizon’s early years of operation, quickly becoming a large part of the organization's patient base. Despite the fear and confusion surrounding HIV and AIDS, the organization quickly organized in support of Chicagoans facing AIDS. Its fundraising began to target the specific needs of people with HIV and AIDS, which ranged from nursing support and meals to finding housing.

Horizon Hospice partnered with Chicago House in the early 1990s, a facility primarily focused on care for people with HIV/AIDS. This section contains brochures from Horizon Hospice and Chicago House, as well as meeting agendas and notes from the hospice's meeting on how best to reach this demographic.
