A Circle of Care: Horizon Hospice, 1978-2015: by Special Collections and University Archives, UIC Library

Treating people with AIDS

Horizon Hospice was founded in the late 1970s, and a short decade later, a new virus came to Chicago. The AIDS crisis began in Horizon’s early years of operation. Despite the fear and confusion surrounding HIV and AIDS, the organization quickly organized in support of Chicagoans facing life or death with AIDS. They partnered with Chicago House in the early 1990s, an in-patient facility primarily focused on care for AIDS patients.
